We’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions about Mavic Mini and provided detailed answers to help you gain more knowledge about our fun new mini drone.
In October 2019, we launched Mavic Mini, a new, ultra-light drone for everyday pilots. Mavic Mini has generated a lot of buzz worldwide, prompting drone enthusiasts to reach out and ask questions about Mavic Mini, including what it can do and whether it will affect our existing line of products. We’ve picked some of the most common questions you’ve all been asking. Let’s get straight to it.
Will Mavic Mini make my Mavic Air/Spark obsolete?
Every one of our products have unique features and advantages. Spark remains a fantastic new drone for beginners and those who aren’t familiar with drones and aerial photography. Mavic Mini is a great step up for users looking for an extremely portable and lightweight drone that delivers a powerful flight and camera performance. Mavic Air features a wide range of intelligent flight modes as well as forward vision sensing. We encourage you to choose your drone based on your needs and skill level. Which drone is better for me: Mavic Mini or Mavic Air?
Mavic Mini and Mavic Air have the same 1/2.3” CMOS 12 MP camera, with the Mavic Mini offering up to 2.7K at 30 fps and the Mavic Air offering 4K at 30 fps. Both are excellent drones for frequent travelers with high requirements for portability.
Where the two drones start to differ is in terms of size, flight times, and ease of use. Mavic Mini is smaller and lighter, weighing less than 250 g. Mavic Mini is operated with the new DJI Fly app, which is perfect for users with no editing experience, offering creative options to turn any video into a social media clip. Lastly, Mavic Mini has up to 30 minutes flight time. Mavic Air impresses with its intelligent flight modes and its forward vision sensors. If you’re still not sure which of these two fantastic drones you prefer, take a look at our Mavic series comparison.
Is Mavic Mini under the same flight restrictions and policies as other drones?
Yes. However, Mavic Mini weighs only 249g, making it eligible to fly in some countries and regions without needing registration.
Flight safety is closely related to public safety and national security, and we request all of our new Mini users to be aware and pay attention to all relevant local flight restrictions and policies related to flying their aircraft.
How high can Mavic Mini fly?
The default max flight height for your Mavic Mini is 120 m, which can be increased to 500 m by changing the settings in the DJI Fly app. The max takeoff altitude is 3000 m. But please be aware that the max flight height can change depending on the different rules and regulations observed across different countries and regions. We recommend that you check all relevant local laws and regulations for your aircraft each time before you fly. It’s always good to stay safe!
Does Mavic Mini really have a 30-minute flight time?
Yes. Mavic Mini has a 30-minute flight time when flown at a constant speed of 14 km/h in calm weather. Mavic Mini’s light weight and a 2400 mAh Li-Po Intelligent Flight Battery help it fly longer than your average drone.
Mavic Mini is so light! How does it perform with wind resistance?
Mavic Mini may be small, but it’s no pushover when it comes to handling windy weather, hovering stably at wind speeds of up to 8 m/s (level 4 winds).
Does Mavic Mini have a vision sensing system?
Mavic Mini has downward vision sensors that are mainly used for precision hovering and flight stabilization. These sensors can detect downward obstacles effectively. As Mavic Mini doesn’t have sensors in other directions, we recommend using our 360° Propeller Guards for better all-around protection.
What video transmission technology does Mavic Mini use?
Mavic Mini uses enhanced Wi-Fi transmission technology to help you maintain stable visual contact with your aircraft.
Can I use the Mavic Mini battery with other Mavic products?
No. The Mavic Mini Intelligent Flight Battery is not compatible with any other Mavic series aircraft, remote controllers, or the DJI Smart Controller. Stay safe and always ensure you are using the correct battery for your DJI product!
Does Mavic Mini have Pano, Timelapse, or Zoom functions?
No. Currently, Mavic Mini only supports single shot and timed photo modes. But if you’re looking to take some fun interesting footage, we do recommend trying one of Mavic Mini’s four special QuickShots!
Does Mavic Mini support ActiveTrack or any other intelligent flight modes?
Mavic Mini supports four QuickShot modes for taking fun aerial videos: Rocket, Dronie, Circle, and Helix. Currently, ActiveTrack is not available for Mavic Mini.
What image quality can Mavic Mini shoot?
Mavic Mini has a 1/2.3-inch 12MP sensor that is capable of shooting 2.7K quad HD videos. Mavic Mini’s camera packs plenty of power for new users who are still looking to create stunning content!
Can Mavic Mini shoot RAW video? Can I set the support exposure manually?
Mavic Mini does not support RAW format. Auto mode is the only exposure mode supported for video recording, but you can toggle between Auto and Manual modes when taking photos to help you with tasks such as capturing better nighttime shots.
What is the max flight speed of Mavic Mini?
The max speed of Mavic Mini depends on which flight mode the aircraft is set to: Sport mode, Position mode, or CineSmooth mode. The fastest horizontal speed Mavic Mini can reach is 13 m/s in Sport mode. But be careful! Mini moves really fast in Sport mode! Only use Sport mode after you’ve done a bit of flying and are used to controlling your aircraft.
